Flashdisk or thumb drive is a popular media storage. Cheap price with big capacity. Easy to bring everywhere. No special drive required to read it. We need only a USB connector which is generally available in nowadays computer. A lot of flash disk owner use default setting from the vendor. We can make our flash disk different with other user, by changing flash disk icon with our own image.

Prepare your favorite icon. The file must have extension *.ico with size 16×16 or 32×32 pixels. I never try other image file type. If you have good sense of art, make your own icon. You can download icon maker software. There are free and commercial software. Another option, you can make icon online. Go directly to http://www.rw-designer.com/online_icon_maker.php to make your icon online. Save your icon to flash disk.
Open notepad, copy paste code below. Save in your flash disk and name it autorun.inf.

icon=D:\your_folder\your_icon_file_name.ico

Attribute icon has icon file name value (with full path).

Open windows explorer adn see your flash disk icon. If you can’t see your new icon, restart your PC.

Result:

Flashdisk labeled DANI-FLASH has custom icon.

Compare it with flashdisk labeled GWG.

PS:
I used M$ Windows XP SP2 Operating System. Never been tested in other operating systems.
